Is Tanjiro TOO Pure? How Does Someone Stay That Kind While Fighting Literal Demons?”

“I can pick up a sound so gentle and kind from Tanjiro, it makes me want to cry.”
Dude, when Zenitsu says this about Tanjiro, it literally gives me chills every single time! And honestly? No wonder even his spiritual core is so pleasant – we’ve been watching this kid show compassion to the most terrifying demons since the very beginning of Season 1, and it never gets old.
But there’s this one scene during the Final Selection that absolutely wrecked me. Tanjiro faces off against that nightmare of a demon – you know, the one that specifically hunts down Urokodaki’s students like some sick game. This monster had already devoured 14 of them! FOURTEEN! And then it has the audacity to tell Tanjiro it killed Sabito and Makomo too.
My heart was breaking just watching this, and I’m sitting here safe on my couch! But here’s what gets me when Tanjiro finally takes down this demon, he gives it this look… this expression that even surprises the monster itself.
That’s when it hits you. Tanjiro mentions that demons carry the scent of extreme grief, and suddenly everything makes sense about his character.
Remember when Giyu slays Rui and just steps on his body like trash? Tanjiro immediately stops him and says these demons are just misguided people, not hopeless monsters. He actually believes they regret what they’ve become!
Look at those expressions Tanjiro makes in a demon’s final moments – it’s like he can see straight through to their humanity, understanding exactly why they ended up this twisted and lost. They literally can’t think for themselves anymore; they’ve been completely manipulated and corrupted.

Even his dreams show this incredible purity! His spirit actually guides that kid to destroy the spiritual core instead of doing something cruel or selfish.
And get this – Urokodaki himself is shocked that Tanjiro’s scent of kindness doesn’t change even when he’s facing down literal demons. How is it even possible for someone to maintain that level of empathy in those situations? It’s insane!
