Gyomei: Why He’s the Strongest Hashira

It’s not yet mentioned in the anime, but in the Demon Slayer world, Stone Breathing is considered the third strongest breathing style.

Listen, I think Gyomei Himejima is just this naturally gifted powerhouse with insane willpower and physical strength paired with incredible mental fortitude that blows my mind every time I think about it. Because in that flashback scene, this man literally punches a demon with his bare hands until sunrise!

No combat training. No special Nichirin swords. Nothing!

And yet he completely overpowers a demon while being completely blind! How is that even possible?!

Gyomei mastered Stone Breathing, which is one of the five original breathing styles, and Stone Breathing technique is considered both the most destructive offensive power and also has the absolute best defense in the entire series.

What made me absolutely love this character is that moment in his flashback where he didn’t judge that terrified little kid but instead supported her by saying she was just a child who didn’t know any better. That level of compassion after everything he went through just hits different.

When Tanjiro trains under Gyomei Himejima, he acknowledges him with this powerful statement: “You prioritized human life in Swordsmith Village instead of protecting your sister.” And then he thinks to himself that children are naturally innocent and selfish, but this particular child is completely different from the rest.

In the anime we got just a small glimpse of how ridiculously strong the Stone Hashira really is because the entire Hashira assembly was absolutely shocked when he effortlessly stopped Sanemi from attacking Giyu Tomioka like it was nothing!

What I’m trying to say is that Gyomei isn’t just some brute with overwhelming physical strength – this guy has the most balanced and wise mindset of any Hashira we’ve seen. He perfected both his combat skills and breathing style through nothing but pure, relentless dedication and training!

Yo, Watashi no Namae wa Vamshi Chandar! Watching anime and reading manga has been my favorite thing to do since I was 11 years old. I've watched 5000+ anime episodes and read more than 2000 manga chapters. I prefer ISEKAI and Shounen mostly, but I do watch Seinen and Shoujo as well.
